Rep. Mark Takano Joins Rep. Hoyer and Democratic Colleagues to Unveil New "Make It In America" Legislative Priorities

Rep. Mark Takano joined House Democrats today to unveil new Make It In America priorities for the 113th Congress, which develops a national manufacturing strategy, increases manufacturing exports, encourages businesses to bring innovation and jobs back home, and invests in training and securing the skilled workforce needed to support manufacturing in the twenty-first century.

During the press conference, Takano said, "How to make America a manufacturing powerhouse once again isn't some mystery. There's no secret sauce. We know how to do this and have the tools at our disposal to do it.

"The legislation that I've introduced, that's a part of the Make It In America Plan, is called the Job Skills for America's Students Act and encourages partnerships between employers and educational institutions. Employers who participate are able to receive a $2,000 tax credit per student participating in a qualified technical training and skills program, with a total credit amount cap of $10,000 per year."

The four Make It In America priorities announced today were developed after hearing from leaders in business and labor about the policies that would make the biggest difference in helping businesses and workers make it in America. These are policies that have drawn support from Americans across the political spectrum. Over the coming weeks, House Democrats will be introducing additional Make It In America bills in these four areas and are calling on Republicans to work together to pass them swiftly into law.
