Today, Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-Calif.) Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations released the following statement after the Senate failed to pass commonsense legislation extending background checks for all gun sales:
"I'm disappointed with the Senate for voting against the wishes of 90 percent of the American people and the overwhelming majority of gun owners who agree that requiring background checks for all gun purchases not only helps to reduce crime, but also respects Second-Amendment rights. What does it say about our democracy when a few special interests are able to cloud out the wishes of an overwhelming majority of the people? Americans deserve better -- especially the families who have lost loved ones to senseless gun violence. The fight for commonsense reforms must go on until we can all look ourselves in the face and honestly say we did all we could to prevent another tragedy and another family from losing a loved one due to senseless gun violence."
