U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) was selected to join a special bipartisan congressional panel on strengthening the country's economy by improving freight transportation.

The exclusive 11-member panel, designated by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, will examine the current state of freight transportation in the United States and how improving freight transportation can boost the U.S. economy. In particular, this panel will recommend ways to improve the movement of freight across all modes of the transportation network.

"I am excited to have been chosen to serve on this panel," Mullin said. "Oklahoma's 2nd District has all forms of freight transportation -- rails, highways, ports, inland waterways, pipelines and air carriers -- so our voice and experience of being the "Crossroads of America' should be a part of the discussion on how to improve freight movement in our country."

The panel will be chaired by U.S. Rep. John J. Duncan, Jr. (TN-2) and will work together for six months. While the workload is ambitious, Mullin said he believes the results will help build efficiency in the transportation network. He also cited the important link between maintaining the nation's infrastructure and creating jobs and economic growth.

"As a businessman, I know that we must always look at how to improve the system and how to make things work more effectively and efficiently. I look forward to bringing that perspective to this important panel whose work will affect our entire nation."
