Titus Statement on Bipartisan Immigration Reform Proposal

Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada's First District spoke on the floor of the House today addressing the Senate working group's bipartisan proposal for comprehensive immigration reform. Titus also released the following statement on the new reform proposal:

"The bill introduced by the bipartisan group of Senators is not perfect but it takes a significant step toward the comprehensive reform that we so desperately need. It honors our country's heritage as the "land of opportunity," promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, providing 11 million undocumented immigrants a fair path to citizenship, protecting workers, and securing our borders. Three years after I proudly supported the DREAM Act, this proposal offers young, undocumented immigrants brought here as children a chance to participate in the American Dream. I am concerned; however, that it cuts diversity visas and some family visas."

"I am encouraged by the momentum in Congress, and I believe the Gang of Eight's proposal provides a foundation that will allow reform to move forward in Washington. As comprehensive reform proposals are considered in both the Senate and the House, I look forward to having an ongoing discussion with the residents of District One to discuss these proposals and hear their opinions on this important issue."
