U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) today released a statement decrying the inclusion of the Republican proposal to cut future Social Security benefits in the President's budget:
"I'm disappointed that President Obama's budget includes Republican Social Security cuts that will hurt seniors and middle class families. Seventy percent of the deficit reduction measures we've passed have come from spending cuts and we can't afford to further balance our books on the backs of middle-class families and seniors. Chained CPI will mean a real cut to future Social Security benefits, making it harder for seniors to enjoy the dignified retirement they deserve.
"The President's budget includes laudable efforts to expand access to early childhood education, increase tobacco taxes, and invest in our infrastructure, but the proposed cuts to Social Security benefits are a major problem that would hurt countless Americans."
