Smith Will Chair Key Commerce Sub-Committee on Trade, Tourism and Economic Development
Committee's Jurisdiction Includes Wide Range of Critical Issues
Washington, DC - Today, Senator Gordon Smith (R-OR) announced he will be the chairman of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Trade, Tourism and Economic Development which plays a vital role in furthering the competitiveness of American trade, the tourism industry and general domestic business issues.
"Trade and tourism are critical to the American economy," said Smith. "I'm going to make aggressively pursuing pro-growth policies its top priority."
The Subcommittee has a wide jurisdiction of influence that includes oversight of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), The Tourism Promotion Board and the Department of Commerce trade issues. A main Smith priority includes the prompt passage of the FTC Reauthorization bill.
Smith formerly chaired the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Competition, Foreign Commerce and Infrastructure.
