Reid: Rally Reminds Us Why Immigration Reform Is Good For Our Nation

Statement

Date: April 10, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement after thousands of people rallied in front of the U.S. Capitol, asking Congress to fix our broken immigration system with common sense reform that includes an earned path to citizenship, that secures our borders and strengthens our economy:

"Today, I saw in front of the U.S. Capitol thousands of American citizens, and thousands more who want nothing more than to be American citizens. They asked their elected officials to fix our broken immigration system and told us to look at this issue not just with our heads, but also with our hearts. The massive crowd in front of the Capitol, and the millions of Americans around the country who want an immigration system that works for our nation, can count on my full support.

"For me, this issue is personal. The stories I often hear in Nevada's communities are heartbreaking. Our broken system tears families apart every day; it leaves our country vulnerable and it is not good for our economy. I will continue working closely with the community to get this bill over the finish line. I hope that throughout this process the community we saw in action today will stay active, stay involved and continue to make their voices heard."
