Rep. McKinley Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Promote Manufacturing and Encourage Job Creation

Rep. David B. McKinley, P.E. introduced a bipartisan bill today to boost job growth and revitalize domestic manufacturing. The Manufacturing Economic Recovery Act (H.R. 1522) grants a tax credit to businesses that utilize abandoned manufacturing sites to expand their operations.

"In the Ohio Valley and across the country, too many manufacturing jobs have been forced overseas," said Rep. McKinley. "This bill will give companies the incentive to purchase old industrial sites, clean up the land, and reestablish operations there. Congress needs to encourage manufacturers to build here, create jobs, and revitalize struggling communities."

This legislation would create a tax credit for companies that purchase existing manufacturing infrastructure and retrofit it for their use. There are three Democratic co-sponsors to the legislation.

"The bill was introduced with bipartisan support," said Rep. McKinley. "It's vital that Congress works together across party lines to restore our manufacturing base and create jobs in places like Wheeling and New Martinsville."

Original co-sponsors of the bill include Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL), Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), Rep. Mike Doyle (D-PA), Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH), Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-OH), and Rep. Lou Barletta (R-PA).
