Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) issued the following statement on the $3.77 trillion budget proposed today by President Obama.
"President Obama's proposal does not get us where we need to be, which is to a balanced budget. Like the plan released by Senate Democrats, it relies too much on higher taxes and fails to sufficiently reduce the runaway federal spending that has our national debt fast approaching a staggering $17 trillion. We will need much more significant reforms to the entitlement programs that are the main drivers of the debt, particularly to a Social Security Disability program that is being abused. Now that all of the budget proposals have finally been made, it's my hope our full attention can be focused on the challenge of restoring fiscal accountability in Washington over both the short-term and the long-term."
