Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on new initiatives in the House Democrats "Make it In America" agenda that focus on boosting U.S. manufacturing:
"Today, House Democrats are taking another step towards strengthening our economy and improving our competitiveness by advancing positive solutions in our "Make it In America' agenda. Under the leadership of our distinguished House Whip Steny Hoyer, we are renewing our focus on clear, positive, and necessary solutions that will revitalize our manufacturing sector, encourage business innovation, and create good-paying jobs that strengthen our middle class.
"To ensure a competitive and thriving economy, we must enact a national manufacturing strategy, promote the export of U.S. goods, encourage insourcing and innovation, and train a 21st century workforce. These policies have found support from business, labor groups, and both sides of the aisle -- and that is what Democrats are putting on the table. Yet Republicans continue to support an economic plan that would stall our economic recovery, raise taxes on the middle class, and cost Americans two million jobs next year. That is the last thing American families need.
"Now is the time to renew and refocus our efforts on creating jobs and securing the middle class. If Republicans are serious about expanding an economy built to last, it's time for them to work with Democrats and commit to solutions that ensure the success of our small businesses, the security of our middle class, and the economic strength of our country. It's time we make it in America, so our families and workers can make it in America."
