U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., intends to oppose any legislation that would infringe upon Americans' Second Amendment rights, as the Senate reconvenes this week. He is joining Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., Mike Lee, R-Utah, Ted Cruz, R-Texas and others, in signing a letter sent to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., expressing their intention to oppose the motion to proceed to any legislation that will impose additional gun restrictions.
Reid recently announced the Senate will take up a comprehensive gun control bill this week. Reid has also announced his intention to secure votes on an assault rifle ban as well as a high-capacity magazine ban, according to Enzi.
"The measures proposed currently by the majority do not reduce crime, they simply restrict the American public's constitutional right to self-defense," Enzi said. "These bills would take away one of the basic freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights and proponents won't stop with these restrictions."
