Representative Jim McDermott responds to press on Senator Mitch McConnell's "Secret Republican Plan to Repeal "Obamacare'."
"This morning, stories emerged of Mitch McConnell's recommitment to repealing Obamacare, this year and for the foreseeable future. In an effort to excite the extreme right and in hopes of a surge of reelection support, Senator McConnell is promising to use every parliamentary trick he can find to take healthcare away from the 32 million people that Obamacare will insure.
"Senator McConnell's approach is exactly what Americans hate about Washington, DC. Just five months ago voters rejected the Republican presidential candidate who ran on repealing Obamacare, rejected Republican Senate candidates with the same agenda, and nationally rejected House Republicans, who have tried to repeal the law more than 30 times, by 1.5 million votes.
"What kind of a leader pushes an agenda that the majority of Americans have strongly and repeatedly rejected? One who cares more about his campaign coffers than the people he's supposed to represent.
"Obamacare is wanted and needed, and arcane Senate procedures are the only thing allowing Senator McConnell to hold on to his extreme agenda. It's time to put down the campaign signs and get to work on the job in front of Congress: fulfilling the promise of health care for all."
