Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen joined Holocaust survivors Inge Berg Katzenstein and Werner Katzenstein to light a candle as part of the Days of Remembrance Program in the US Capitol this morning. Mr. and Mrs. Katzenstein are both residents of Montgomery County and live in Maryland's Eighth District.
"I was honored to join Mr. and Mrs. Katzenstein to mark the Days of Remembrance. Lighting a candle at today's ceremony, we honored the millions who lost their lives, as well as those who survived to share their stories. The men and women here today lived through unspeakable tragedy, suffering at the hands of the Nazis simply because of who they were. But their stories also show strength and determination," said Congressman Van Hollen. "As we reflect on the heinous acts that were perpetrated during the Holocaust and the countless lives that were lost, we stand with Israel and countries across the world to recommit ourselves to ensuring this kind of injustice never happens again."
