Congressman Keith Rothfus [PA-12] released the following statement on the Department of Defense's (DoD) announcement that it will restore the tuition assistance benefit program for active-duty members of our armed forces.
"Many service members and their families reached out to me to share their disappointment and frustration with the decision to cut tuition assistance funding," said Rothfus. "I voted last week to require the DoD to continue the military tuition assistance programs. This restoration of funding is a victory for all of our men and women in uniform."
The DoD this week announced the restoration of the program after suspending it earlier this month as a result of sequestration.
The final version of the continuing resolution (H.R. 933), which Rothfus voted for, included an amendment (S.AMDT.72) proposed by Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe that required the continuation of military tuition assistance programs. H.R. 933 passed the House and Senate and was signed by President Obama on Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
More information is available on H.R. 933 and S.AMDT.72.
Rothfus co-sponsored H.R. 1039 which would have cut aid to Egypt and redirected the funds to the DoD's military tuition assistance program. Click here for more information on H.R. 1039.
