U.S. Representative Allyson Y. Schwartz (PA-13) released the following statement today regarding the passing of Margaret Thatcher, the first and only woman to serve as Prime Minister of Britain.
"The daughter of a dressmaker and a grocer, Margaret Thatcher rose to become the first and only woman to serve as Britain's Prime Minister, clearing a revolutionary path for women in politics. Regardless of whether one agreed with her politics and ideology, she was an iconic and transformative figure in Britain and on the world stage, and a true friend of the American people. Deeply opposed to communism, her alliance with President Ronald Reagan helped set the stage for the end of the Cold War. She will be remembered for her dignity, courage and iron will. My condolences go to Lady Thatcher's family and to the British people."
