Hundreds of New Air National Guard Jobs for Mansfield Base

The United States Air Force announced today that the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield will gain 180 Airmen and eight C-130H Hercules aircraft.

Last summer, the Obama Administration claimed to have a plan to salvage the jobs that would be lost at Mansfield Lahm Air National Guard Base should the C-27J program be cut, eliminating over 800 Mansfield jobs and forcing the American taxpayer to pick up the tab for these brand new aircraft. Congressman Gibbs released the following statement in response to the announcement of Mansfield's new mission:

"I am glad the Ohio congressional delegation was able to work together to ensure these hard working men and women are able to continue their mission. The 179th has been key to our nation's security efforts for over 60 years, and I am relieved that the Obama Administration has changed their mind after announcing their plan to eliminate 800 jobs here in Mansfield." -- U.S. Rep.
