Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) released the following statement regarding the passage and signing of comprehensive gun violence prevention legislation in Connecticut. Esty attended the bill signing ceremony in Hartford earlier this afternoon.
"I applaud Governor Malloy and members of both parties in the General Assembly for working together in a bipartisan fashion to pass commonsense legislation to reduce and prevent gun violence.
"Washington should take note. This isn't a Democratic issue or a Republican issue. This is about saving our children's lives. This is about making our communities safer. Connecticut has acted. Now it's time for Congress to do the same. It is time to act -- time to vote -- and time to pass commonsense laws to save lives and prevent gun violence."
