Pelosi Statement on the Senate Vote Against the Ryan-Republican Budget

Statement

Date: March 21, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement tonight after the Senate rejected the Ryan-Republican budget by a vote of 40 to 59:

"Tonight, the Senate rejected the harmful Ryan-Republican budget: it does not have the support of the American people; it has bipartisan opposition in both houses of the Congress; and it will not become law.

"For the third time, House Republicans put forward a budget that would destroy jobs, stall our recovery, harm the middle class, and end the Medicare guarantee. The Republican plan is not a so-called 'path to prosperity'; it is a path to pain for the middle class, for working families, for children, and for seniors.

"Enough is enough. Republicans received a vote on their extreme proposal; now that it has failed once more, it's time for Republicans to work with Democrats to enact a budget that reflects our values of fairness and opportunity for all. Let's act to create jobs, grow the economy, strengthen the middle class, and responsibly reduce the deficit."
