Today, Congressman Andrews announced that South Jersey military bases will receive $87 million to fund three critical construction projects that will improve operations for local service members and will deliver hundreds of jobs to South Jersey. Rep. Andrews worked with Congressmen Runyan and LoBiondo, fellow members of the House Armed Services Committee, to secure the funding through recent legislation that set funding for Department of Defense initiatives, including military construction projects.

The $87 million will be used to build a new multipurpose complex at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, that includes two aircraft hangars, a maintenance shop, and a facility to house and review top secret classified material. A portion of the funds will be used to build a training course at the Joint Base for troops that will simulate the battle field and allow troops to practice combat techniques and perform training for any and all circumstances. At Naval Weapons Station Earle, a 72,000 square foot building addition will house important technical support and logistics for the Aegis combat system, a powerful, advanced system used to track and terminate enemy targets.

"These construction projects will modernize our vital bases, providing our brave warfighters with the technology they need to continue being the most advanced military in the world," said Congressman Andrews. "Building these state-of-the-art facilities will create hundreds of jobs for the hard working men and women of South Jersey."

Congressman Andrews will continue to work with the Armed Services Committee to ensure that New Jersey continues as a leader in supplying our troops with the most advanced and up-to-date technology available.
