Governor Mike Pence today praised the passage of the Higher Education Student Loans Bill, SB 532, which passed the House this afternoon with a vote of 71-24.

"Today, Indiana legislators took a step in the right direction to make college education more affordable for Hoosier students and their families," said Governor Pence. "The passage of this legislation with bipartisan support illustrates the commitment to Hoosiers in addressing and improving college affordability in our state. I am grateful to the leadership of both chambers of the General Assembly, as well as Senator Doug Eckerty (R) who authored the bill in the Senate and Representative Bob Behning (R) who sponsored the bill in the House. "

The bill allows the Indiana Secondary Market for Education Loans (ISM) to provide direct loans to Indiana students to satisfy financing gaps and to educate students regarding responsibly financing their higher education costs.
