Senator Flake Introduces Budget Amendment Creating Earmark Point of Order

Statement

Date: March 21, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

United States Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ), will offer an amendment to the budget resolution (S. Con. Res. 8) that will establish a point of order that would allow the Senate to strike earmarks from future spending bills. A two-thirds vote threshold would be required to waive the point of order.

"While there was a ban on earmarks last Congress, there are many that would love to see the practice return. Creating this point of order makes that much more difficult," said Flake. "This amendment continues the good work of Senators like Pat Toomey, Tom Coburn, and John McCain who initiated the Senate's earmark ban."
