Letter to Secretary of Energy Steven Chu - Cape Wind DOE Loan Guarantee Info

Letter

Subcommittee on Oversight Chairman Paul Broun (R-Ga.) and Rep. James Lankford (R-Okla.), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy Policy, Health Care, and Entitlements of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, today sent a follow-up letter demanding documents from the Department of Energy (DOE) related to a pending loan guarantee for the Cape Wind project, a controversial offshore wind energy project proposed off the coast of Cape Cod, Mass.

In their initial January 25 letter, the lawmakers wrote: "We are concerned that the Department is moving forward with this loan guarantee despite the extensive controversy surrounding departmental management and decision-making associated with the program. As you know, DOE's Loan Program Office (LPO) is mired in controversy following the bankruptcies of Solyndra, Abound Solar, and Beacon Power. These high-profile failures, and the commensurate "subordination' of taxpayer investment, prompted the U.S. House of Representatives to pass H.R. 6213, the No More Solyndras Act last fall."
