Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) praised United Airlines today for extending a 10 year lease that will keep its Maintenance Operations Center at San Francisco International Airport. Nearly 3,500 machinists and managers work at the facility, the largest of its kind on the West Coast.

"United Airlines and San Francisco are a winning combination," said Speier who represents San Francisco and the peninsula. "We get to keep 3,500 good jobs in the Bay Area and the signature United building will continue to be a part of our landscape. It's great that United is keeping jobs here instead of moving them to another city or overseas," said Speier.

Rich Petrovsky, a Business Agent for the Teamsters and Bay Area native said, "We look forward to the opportunity to bring more work to the facility over the next 10 year period. Our members have the opportunity to work and live in one of the most unique environments in the country."

United's 130-acre San Francisco Maintenance Operations Center employs nearly 3,500 maintenance professionals who maintain airframes, engines and components and perform significant cabin modifications on aircraft. Including maintenance and all other types of jobs, approximately 5,600 United employees are based at San Francisco International Airport.
