Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA), vice chairman of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after the introduction of the House Republican Fiscal Year 2014 budget resolution -- The Path to Prosperity: A Responsible, Balanced Budget.

"Today, House Republicans have introduced a responsible plan to put our nation on a path to fiscal solvency and end the days of governing from crisis to crisis. The Path to Prosperity brings our federal budget into balance in 10 years and ensures that taxes paid by American families and small businesses are spent in an accountable and effective way. We know American families can't spend more than they have, and neither should Washington.

"Defenders of the status quo in Washington will say we cannot cut government spending without jeopardizing America's most important priorities, but our budget proves this isn't so. Our plan saves and strengthens Medicare, protects our national security and cares for the poor and sick by repairing the "safety net.' We repeal the president's health care law in order to keep control over health care decisions in the hands of patients, families, and doctors, and pave the way for patient-centered solutions.

"We are able to accomplish all of this without raising taxes on American families and job creators. Democrats continue to advocate raising taxes to chase ever-higher spending. The American people work too hard to have the federal government take more of their money to spend more in Washington. Our budget calls for real tax reform that lowers rates, eliminates loopholes and simplifies the code, so the American people have access to more jobs and higher wages.

"What's happening in Washington today just is not working, and the American people are sick and tired of the backroom deals and special interests. That's why our plan puts an end to the accounting tricks, budget gimmicks and wasteful spending. The policies proposed by the White House and Senate Democrats continue to hurt the American people and our economy. House Republicans want to provide relief, and that begins by taking responsible action now to develop real solutions that will safeguard our nation's future."
