Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney released the following statement on Black History Month and the anniversary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
"Every February, we reflect on the struggles and celebrate the accomplishments of the African-American community. As we honor the extraordinary contributions of African-Americans nationwide, we also pay special tribute to the achievements of the NAACP in demanding equality, fighting for justice, and promoting civil rights. Their unwavering commitment to fighting prejudice has helped move our nation closer to finally ending the social, educational, and economic inequalities in our country.
"Although we've seen great strides towards equality, the road is far from over. We must see this month as a time to reflect, but also a time to reaffirm our commitment to fighting injustice and inequality in order to create opportunities for all Americans."
