Today, Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) commemorated the third anniversary of the Affordable Care Act enacted on March 23, 2010, by highlighting the hundreds of thousands of Louisiana residents that have already benefitted from the historic legislation.

"After just three years, Louisianans of all ages have seen lower costs and better coverage," said Rep. Richmond. "The comprehensive reforms under the Affordable Care Act have ensured that health insurance companies can no longer dictate the quality of care for any American."

A recent report by the United States Department of Health and Human Services documented the effects of the Affordable Care Act in Louisiana.

"This year alone, 60,000 Louisiana seniors have saved an average of $704 per person on their medication," said Rep. Richmond. "The Affordable Care Act has been a major success for seniors that live on a fixed income and can't afford to pay the skyrocketing price of prescription drugs."

The report also showed:

1.4 million Louisiana residents, including 538,000 women and 385,000 children, no longer have lifetime limits on their health coverage
381,000 seniors took advantage of free preventative services, such as colonoscopies or mammograms. Additionally, 932,000 Louisiana residents enrolled in private health insurance plans also received free preventive care
53,000 young people who would otherwise be uninsured are now covered on their parent's health insurance until their 26th birthday
"I will continue to fight for the American people and will oppose any threat to return America to a health care system where insurance companies make all the rules and our most vulnerable citizens lack adequate coverage," Rep. Richmond concluded.
