Today, the House of Representatives voted on a series of amendments to the House Republican Budget. The amendments would put Americans back to work and keep our economy moving forward. After these votes, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter issued the following statement:
"A budget represents our nation's priorities, and I believe our greatest priority should be to create jobs and strengthen the middle class. The budgets I supported today passed that test and would put our economy on a path towards sustainable growth.
"They would preserve ladders of opportunity and protect the middle class by investing in things like education, transportation, and research and development. Today's budgets would also reduce the deficit in a balanced manner that closes tax loopholes, replaces sequestration's irresponsible cuts, keeps our commitment to seniors, and cuts spending through a targeted and steady approach.
