Congresswoman Shea-Porter announced that yesterday, President Obama declared that the severe winter storm from February 8-10 caused a disaster in New Hampshire and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in Belknap, Carroll, Cheshire, Hillsborough, Merrimack, Rockingham, Strafford and Sullivan counties.
The funding will be available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe winter storm.
"I appreciate President Obama and FEMA's responsiveness to New Hampshire after the massive storm in February," Shea-Porter said. "This disaster declaration will help local communities cover the financial burden incurred by the storm and begin to build back resources after the severe weather."
The disaster assistance will be managed by the N.H. Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. That agency will hold applicant briefings in each county the week of April 1. One important criterion in determining eligibility for disaster aid will be whether a county has received record or near-record snowfall.
