Congresswoman Shea-Porter issued the following statement on the House of Representative's decision yesterday to cut funding for committees and jeopardize Congress' ability to conduct meaningful oversight:
"The passage of H. Res. 115 jeopardizes Congress' ability to serve the American people and conduct meaningful oversight. I agree with House Armed Services Chairman and Republican Buck McKeon who also voted against this reckless policy. He said these cuts "would cripple committee functions at an important time.' The Armed Services Committee relies on highly specialized staff to carry out its mission. As our troops and veterans face special challenges, this is no time to cut committee staff and reduce oversight."
