Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE) voted today in favor of passing House Resolution 115 that reduces the expenses of Congressional committees by 11 percent. The resolution passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 272-136.

The resolution is in addition to the 8.2 percent reduction of members personal office budgets passed early in the 113th Congress.

"As a subcommittee Chairman, I believe it's important to work directly with Chairman Upton and lead by example by reducing unnecessary expenses," said Terry, who serves as Chairman of the Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade Subcommittee of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

In the last two years prior to sequestration, House Republicans previously reduced spending levels for personal offices and Congressional Committees by five percent in 2011 and 6.4 percent in 2012.

Today's action is the largest cut to committee funding since the 104th Congress.

Terry concluded: "Much like families sitting at kitchen tables across America, Congress must find ways to do more with less. I believe we can do so and keep the People's House open to the public for business."
