Rep. Yoder Responds to February Jobs Report

Statement

Date: March 8, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Kevin Yoder made the following statement after the Department of Labor released the jobs report for the month of February. The report showed a tick down in the unemployment rate from 7.9 percent to 7.7 percent. Private sector job growth rose with business owners adding 236,000 jobs, and public sector and government jobs were lower by 10,000. However, also contributing to the slight drop in unemployment rate was a shrinking labor force -- those either employed or actively looking for gainful employment.

"I'm pleased to see employers putting 236,000 Americans back to work last month, but we still have a long way to go. To many Americans, it still feels like the recession never ended and the quest for employment continues. We must continue to do all we can to support policies that will grow our economy and find employment opportunities for the 12 million Americans still looking for work.

While the Congressional session is still relatively new, we must renew our focus on passing legislation that supports job growth through reforming the tax code, reducing regulatory burdens, and policies that encourage innovators and small business owners to expand, hire, and grow."
