Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) today issued the following statement in support of the Fiscal Year 2014 Budget Resolution, which passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 221-207.
"In floor activity today, we approved a budget that helps put America back on a path to economic prosperity and balances in a decade. The House budget will cut $4.6 trillion in wasteful government spending and ensures that the federal government stops spending more money than it collects. Our plan reduces duplicative federal programs, protects Medicare for today's seniors while strengthening its foundation for future generations, and requires the President to work with Congress to develop a plan to preserve Social Security.
"With CBO projecting that the federal government will collect a record $2.7 trillion in revenue this year, the president is nothing short of becoming a hall-of-fame tax collector. We can't simply solve our debt crisis by trying to tax our way out of it as President Obama continues to suggest. We need to get Americans back to work by adopting strategies like the House budget that promote a robust economy.
"The national debt is a gathering storm. We have time to manage through it, but only if we act now. We cannot continue to waste taxpayer dollars on inefficient, costly programs the American people do not want and can't afford."
