Blackburn Statement on House Passage of SKILLS Act

Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) today issued the following statement in support of H.R. 803, the Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act, which was approved by the House of Representatives as part of an effort to improve the effectiveness of America's workforce training system.

"Over 12 million Americans are unemployed and struggling to find work, but they lack the training employers require for the most in-demand vacant positions. America's current workforce training system is ineffective, wasteful, and failing the American people.

"The SKILLS Act aims to improve our nation's workforce training system by reforming redundant or duplicative programs. By streamlining these programs we can help reduce billions in government waste, shrink a bloated administrative bureaucracy and allocate resources to those that desperately need new training.

"During his State of the Union address, President Obama made a commitment to improve our nations' workforce training programs. By passing the SKILLS Act today, House Republicans have answered the call of Americans who are demanding action on real reforms that will help put people back to work. I hope the Senate and President will join us in the effort."
