Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4) today released the following statement after House passage of The Path to Prosperity: A Responsible, Balanced Budget, sponsored by Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI):
"For the third year in a row I've voted for a budget that would repeal Obamacare, reform our complicated tax code and addresses the number one driver of our deficits and debt: our rapidly growing entitlement system. Passage of today's budget also restores some of the funds that were recently cut from our military that would threaten our ability to maintain a well-equipped and well-trained force. This budget contains a pro-growth agenda that will put Americans back to work, cut spending in a responsible manner, and balance the budget over time. In contrast, the Senate budget increases taxes by more than $1 trillion, slashes defense budgets on top of recent cuts, and never balances. Further, no one knows what the President's budget looks like, as he is late yet again in delivering a plan to Congress."
The Ryan plan provides for $560.2 billion in defense spending in 2014 and an additional $500 billion for defense over the next 10 years. That amount would help protect against recent sequester cuts that threaten to slash billions in defense spending.
