Congressman Sam Graves (MO-06) recently welcomed several members of Missouri's Agricultural Leadership of Tomorrow (ALOT) from the Sixth District to Washington. Graves met with the group before leading them on a tour of the U.S. Capitol with other ALOT participants and members of the Missouri Farm Bureau.
"As an alumnus of the ALOT program, I know firsthand the impact it has on our state's rural areas, and I was pleased to welcome such a passionate and intelligent group to Washington," said Congressman Graves, a farmer himself. "Since Missouri has the second largest number of farmers in the country, I appreciate ALOT's efforts to ensure new generations of leaders within our state's agricultural community. We have the safest, most-abundant food supply in the world and that's because of what our farmers and ranchers do every day, and ALOT is helping ensure that remains the case."
ALOT is a two-year leadership program, attracting Missouri adults from across the state, representing rural and urban areas, full-time farmers and agribusiness, media, financial representatives and more, who have a passion for promoting Missouri agriculture and strengthen rural communities. The program began in 1983, and 25 individuals are selected for each class. More information can be found at http://www.alotmissouri.com/.
