Rep Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) issued the following statement on the Continuing Resolution, which will fund government operations through September:
"There is no question East Tennesseans want our government to spend less, and with this bill we will be spending $61 billion less than last year on the programs funded through the continuing resolution. This important legislation will also ensure that government operations are funded through the end of the fiscal year, avoiding a government shutdown.
"While sequestration is still not the ideal way to achieve the goal of cutting spending, today's bill makes these cuts more manageable. The bill will give the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs more flexibility to manage the spending reductions required by sequestration. We must cut spending, but we should not balance our budget on the backs of those that proudly serve and have served our country."
