Westmoreland Cosponsors Legislation to Defund ObamaCare

Press Release

Date: March 7, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Westmoreland has signed on to be an original cosponsor of H.R. 1005, the Defund ObamaCare Act, a bill that would defund ObamaCare in order to halt implementation until a full repeal and replacement can occur. H.R. 1005 authorizes that no funds would be appropriated to carry out provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148), the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-152), and any amendment made by each such Act. Congressman Westmoreland was also a sponsor of this legislation in the 112th Congress. Currently, H.R. 1005 has been referred to the House Committees on Energy on Commerce, and Ways and Means. Below is Congressman Westmoreland's statement:

"As we've seen over the last few years, ObamaCare is creating devastating effects on our premiums, jobs, small businesses, and doctors. The House has voted seven times to repeal ObamaCare and without funding, ObamaCare can't get in between an individual and their doctor. I will continue to fight for individuals to have the right to make decisions based on what's best for their family, without it costing an arm and a leg. Health care should be patient-centered, not government-controlled," stated Westmoreland.
