Today Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) was pleased to sign on as an original co-sponsor to legislation that would assure that schools have effective anti bullying policies in place. The "Safe Schools Improvement Act" has been introduced in previous Congresses and Ileana has been a staunch supporter of this bill.

The legislation will require that schools collect data regarding bullying and harassment incidents and implement anti-bullying policies that address these issues, while ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "Schools should be places where students can go to learn and advance their education, not places where a student needs to be in fear because of bullying. As a former Florida certified teacher, I know that bullying is a real problem in our schools and that the emotional scars can last a lifetime. I appreciate the ongoing effort of many states to establish anti bullying laws. However, this bill will assure that all across our nation schools have the right anti bullying policies in place."
