Today Congressman Ralph Hall (TX-04) voted in favor of H.R. 668, to require that annual budget submissions of the President to Congress provide an estimate of the cost per taxpayer of the deficit. The bill passed the House, 392-28.
"In order to get America's economy back on track and help Americans get jobs, Washington must address its serious spending problem," said Hall. "Today's bill holds the President accountable for any budget proposal he sends to Congress by requiring an honest assessment of how much the President's budget would cost each taxpayer."
Hall continued, "The President has already added nearly $6 trillion to the national debt and shows no signs of curbing his out-of-control spending habit, which has real-world consequences for all Americans. By making personal impacts of deficit spending more transparent, constituents will be better able to understand how the spending decisions favored by the President are irresponsible and harmful to Americans.
"Hardworking taxpayers deserve to know how much federal deficits cost them each year. I will continue to fight to rein in excessive federal spending and make responsible spending cuts while ensuring transparency in Washington."
