Congressman Jim Moran, Northern Virginia Democrat and Ranking Member on the Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement on President Obama's nomination of Gina McCarthy to serve as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):
"I applaud President Obama's nomination of Gina McCarthy to head the EPA. Gina brings a wealth of experience to the position, currently serving as Assistant EPA Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation. Further, Gina is known as an open-minded and fair civil servant. She previously worked for Republican Governors of Massachusetts and Connecticut.
"Failure to act on climate change will affect our national security and the longevity and health of future generations. In his State of the Union address, President Obama reaffirmed his commitment to combating global warming. Gina is one of the best people to take on this challenge and her nomination reflects the president's dedication to addressing climate change. I look forward to working with Gina and hope the Senate will act swiftly to approve her confirmation."
