Goodlatte Statement on Budget Votes

Statement

Date: March 21, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bob Goodlatte released the following statement after voting in support of The Path to Prosperity, the House Republican budget, as well as the alternative budget offered by the Republican Study Committee (RSC):

"Today the House passed The Path to Prosperity, which provides a path to a balanced budget, eliminates funding for Obamacare and repeals the taxes in the law, and fixes the broken tax code to make it fairer and simpler for our families and small businesses. The House budget balances because that is how we tackle the drivers of America's massive debt. A budget blueprint that does not fully address this problem will not solve anything.

"While I support The Path to Prosperity, I also voted in favor of the RSC budget alternative that balances the budget in four years and makes even greater cuts to bloated federal spending. Our nation demands bold proposals, and I would encourage the House and Senate to work together to get spending under control now and address the fiscal challenges facing future generations.

"To govern is to choose and the path of choice is clear. Balancing the budget is the responsibility of America's lawmakers. I remain committed to fiscal responsibility and making the tough, but necessary, decisions to cut government spending to ensure a more prosperous future for America."
