Robert Hurt Votes To Preserve Welfare Work Requirements

Congressman Robert Hurt released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 890, a measure which will prevent the Obama Administration from weakening welfare reform by waiving the work requirements of the 1996 welfare reform law:

"The 1996 bipartisan reforms to our welfare system empowered Americans across this country to realize their ability to provide for themselves and for their families and decreased the number of those needing welfare. Today, in light of Administration attempts to weaken the welfare system, the House of Representatives adopted a measure to ensure that these critical reforms remain in place. We in the House will continue our efforts to get 5th District Virginians and Americans across this country back to work, and the Preserving Work Requirements for Welfare Programs Act will move us toward our goal of full employment. I hope the Senate will join us and promptly send this measure to the President's desk."
