Representative Steve Southerland, II issued the following statement today following his vote for the House-approved Require a PLAN Act, which would require the President to either produce a balanced budget or lay out a timeline for when his fiscal blueprint would balance:
"Some of those in Washington who have tried to convince us that expecting a balanced budget in the near future is unreasonable are the same people who are now telling us that even offering a plan that achieves balance at all is too much of a burden. In response, a bipartisan majority in the House voted today for the Require a PLAN Act, which provides the American people with the fiscal accountability and transparency they deserve from their government. Balancing the budget won't be easy, but asking the White House for a plan is not an unrealistic request. I am hopeful that the President will climb above the comfort of lowered expectations and join Congress in fixing our fiscal future."
