U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) met this week with Lee's Summit Mayor Randy Rhoads and City Manager Steve Arbo to discuss a variety of issues, including bolstering public safety, improving transportation infrastructure, and local leaders' support for the "Marketplace Fairness Act," which Blunt co-sponsored in the Senate.
"It's always good to hear from Lee's Summit leaders, and I appreciated our discussion about the important issues that impact local families and job creators," said Blunt. "I'm proud to co-sponsor the Marketplace Fairness Act, which will help level the playing field for local retailers and protect small businesses across America."
Each year, the City of Lee's Summit receives approximately $14 million in sales tax revenue from "brick and mortar" businesses; however, many online and catalog retailers do not collect the same taxes -- posing an unfair disadvantage. The Marketplace Fairness Act would help solve that problem.
