February 1st, 2013 -- Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) issued the following statement on the January Jobs Report released this morning:
"Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its monthly Jobs Report and it is once again not good news for the American economy," said Congressman Markwayne Mullin. "In this report, coming days after we learned that the economy is shrinking for the first time in three years, we now learn that job growth is down at the start of President Obama's second term."
"We must do a better job cutting through Washington's bureaucratic red tape to create an environment for the private sector to thrive. I am a business owner who knows how difficult it is to operate successfully in the current regulatory environment. I ran for Congress because I got fed up with government overregulation which is why I decided to run for Congress. America's entrepreneurs need a climate that encourages them to succeed."
Some highlights of the BLS report:
Unemployment rose to 7.9 percent
The number of unemployed persons was estimated at 12.3 million
The economy added just 157,000 jobs last month
