Today, U.S. Representative Jim Renacci (OH-16) released the following statement on passage in the House of Representatives of a bill to fund the federal government through the end of the fiscal year:
"I am pleased the House acted today to fund the government through the end of this fiscal year, while at the same time avoiding a government shutdown -- something just about no one wanted to see. This bill keeps spending in line with the most recent cuts, which was key to gaining my support. However, it will give the Administration more flexibility in how it will implement the new, reduced spending levels.
"Of deep importance to me, this bill allows the Department of Defense to move funding away from lower priority accounts and into operations to ensure our war fighters are getting all of the tools and support they need to carry out their missions. It also gives members of the military a 1.7 percent pay raise, ensuring those who put themselves in harm's way to defend our freedom are not subject to the current federal pay freeze."
Rep. Renacci is serving his second term in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he is a member of the Ways and Means Committee. Prior to his election he worked as a Certified Public Accountant in the health care industry, and owned and operated over 60 other businesses in the automotive and sports management fields.
