Senator Jay Rockefeller today released the following statement about House Republicans' plans for the federal budget as outlined by Rep. Paul Ryan, Chairman of the U.S. House Budget Committee.
"Promises made should be promises kept. Sadly, not everyone in Congress sticks to that principle. House Republicans are once again trotting out a plan that would destroy programs like Medicare and Medicaid. House Republicans want to break the promises we've made to families working hard but still struggling to put food on the table, at-risk children and seniors living on fixed incomes.
"We need a balanced approach to reducing our deficit, one that asks those who have the most resources to pay a little more while giving a lift to the middle class, investing in our infrastructure, creating jobs, supporting small businesses -- and standing up for our most vulnerable populations. That's the right way to fix our budget. Breaking promises never is."
