Nevada Senator Harry Reid met Tuesday with Mr. Joe Rigsby, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFF) Department of Nevada Commander and other Nevada VFW representatives to discuss ways to improve VA health care, VA compensation & benefits, education & employment for veterans transitioning into civilian life, and providing more resources to effectively deal with veteran homelessness and mental health.
"Since coming to Congress, I have been devoted to improving the lives of all veterans in Nevada," Reid said. "I was pleased to meet with Commander Rigsby and others from Nevada VFW to discuss the issues that are affecting the community in the Silver State, and in particular, improving compensation and benefits, working to end veteran homelessness, and providing our heroes with high quality mental health services.
"Last month, I introduced The Retired Pay Restoration Act of 2013 that will permit retired members of the Armed Forces who have a service-connected disability between 0-40% to receive both their military retired pay and full disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Without passage of this bill, many wounded warriors will not receive the care they were promised and the benefits they deserve in service to our nation. I will do all I can to get it passed."
