U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement regarding the death of a correctional officer at the U.S. Penitentiary at Canaan.
"I am troubled by the assault and heartsick about the death last night of correctional officer Eric Williams at the U.S. Penitentiary at Canaan. I have been in contact with local authorities and understand the prison has taken additional security steps. I've also reached out to the federal Bureau of Prisons and offered any assistance my office can provide."
