New federal resources have been awarded to two fire departments in Summit County. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the Northfield Center Sagamore Hills Fire District in Northfield Center and the Hudson Fire Department in Hudson have been awarded resources for operations and safety by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

"Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio," said Brown. "These funds ensure that firefighters in Northfield Center and Hudson have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely."

This is round 16 of the competitive Fiscal Year 2012 AFG announcements. The Northfield Center Sagamore Hills Fire District and the Hudson Fire Department were awarded $61,750 and $22,680, respectively.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders purchase protective equipment, vehicles, and gear, according to FEMA.
